How about a little something cheery to break up all the sadness?
I have always been a lover of holidays, and Valentine’s Day is no exception. While I might be totally heartbroken this year over my pregnancy loss and very ill Grandpa, there is still something to be celebrated: LOVE.
When it comes to my husband, I’ve completely won the lottery. I realize that now, more than ever before. I owe him the world’s biggest Thank You for dealing with my insane hormones for the last six weeks, and taking care of me during every mental and physical breakdown. If there is one thing I have learned, it’s that life can certainly throw some tough curve balls, but there is nobody else I’d rather have by my side to catch them, than Justin.
Kisses or hugs? I’m honestly not a big touchy-feely person. As a kid, I was always forced to hug & kiss family members goodbye when we’d leave somewhere and I hated it. It feels just as awkward now as it did then. I’m not really comfortable hugging or kissing anyone besides my husband. And these days, every time someone hugs me it’s to say they’re sorry, and I immediately cry. So if you see me in the next few weeks, how about a fist bump instead? 😉
Candy or flowers? Candy, obvi. Flowers are beautiful and all, but they die after a week. Chocolate is the real ticket to my heart.
Baking or cooking? Baking. I am not a good cook, unless it’s something simple like baking a frozen pizza or boiling pasta water. 🙂 Justin does most of the cooking in our house, mostly because he doesn’t trust me to follow recipes (I have this thing where I don’t always measure ingredients…). If there is something to be baked, like a birthday cake, or cookies or brownies for a party, that’s all me.
Do you remember your first kiss? I don’t remember where I was, but I remember WHO it was. I was in 8th grade, and he was in 7th. Ironically, he’s the little brother of one of our friends that we hang out with now! Weird, haha.
Favorite color of roses? Red is so romantic, but given a color choice I’ll always choose pink.
Conversation hearts, yay or nay? You mean, chalk hearts? Hell no, those things are disgusting! However, the Sweet Tarts version are a YAY.
Do you leave love notes? We used to when we lived in the apartment and had a dry erase board in the kitchen. Nowadays, we typically will text each other cute, lovey things every couple days. I also keep every greeting card that he (and anyone else) gives me.
Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? I had planned on it, but didn’t quite get around to it.
Milk, white or dark chocolate? Not a fan of white chocolate, surprisingly. Dark chocolate is my favorite, but I enjoy milk chocolate too.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Maybe not love, but there is something to be said about the immediate attraction. I am a big believer that people will find or notice one another when the timing is right, and often when you least expect it. Side note: That’s exactly how Justin & I started dating! I had known him for years, and NEVER thought of him in that way. It wasn’t until after I had gone through a pretty intense breakup and had finally regained some self-esteem and self-worth, that my perspective changed.
Do you give humorous or serious valentine cards? I opt for the funny cards, but will write something sentimental inside. This year we didn’t exchange any cards or gifts, but I did send Justin a meme valentine of Cookie Monster that read, “You are the Milk to Me Cookies” which is pretty dang accurate. 😉
Favorite chick flick or romantic movie? Sweet Home Alabama or How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Two movies that I’ll ALWAYS watch when they’re on TV, even though I’ve seen them a zillion times each.
Stay in or go out? Stay in, definitely. We’re homebodies, and there’s no place I’d rather celebrate our love than in our home, on our couch, in our pajamas. With a big ol’ glass of wine.
Your turn! Post a comment below about your Valentine’s traditions & favorites!
Sweet Home Alabama is my fav!!!! DVR’d it forever ago so that I can watch it any time I want (so I can kiss you anytime I want 🤪) 😂
