I like to think that I’m a pretty thankful person most of the time, but like everyone else, I place a bigger emphasis on thankfulness during this time of year. Today, I’d like to share with you everything I’m most thankful for – big and small! – at this current moment in my life. Perhaps you, too, might need a gentle reminder to be thankful for all that you DO have, and stress less on the wants & needs.
Justin & Rudy. Obviously! Justin is without a doubt, my soul mate, and my better half. I would marry him over and over again if I could! I can’t wait to tag team this parenting thing with him, and strengthen our bond even more. He cooks for us probably 6 out of 7 nights of the week, a task I am not too fond of (nor very great at!), which is just one of the many ways he shows me that he cares. He works from home most days, doubling as a stay-at-home doggy dad to Rudy M-F, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he will be the best daddy to our daughter, too. Rudy, my trusty 10 lb. sidekick, has been crushing the best friend title for 11 years now. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without these two.
Our babies. It seems a little morbid to be thankful for the babies we lost, but I also wholeheartedly believe that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes, I’m not sure I would be quite AS thankful for our sweet baby girl, had we not been through such trauma. I keep coming back to this thought over and over, and I hope that this sticks with me through every middle of the night feeding, and every diaper blowout inevitably in our future. I have hoped, and wished, and prayed for her for so long, and I hope I will remember how grateful I am to be given this opportunity during even the “sucky” moments.
Our home. We certainly don’t live in a giant, beautiful mansion, but we do have a pretty cute home. I have a roof over my head and a warm place to lay my head at night.
My car. A couple weeks ago, Justin’s car wouldn’t start and left him stranded at Kroger on his lunch break. He had to call Honda and schedule a tow truck to come (an hour+ later, no less) meanwhile I’m thinking– How are we going to share my car while his is in the shop?! And for how long!? Turns out it was just a dead battery and Honda replaced it the same day, but I quickly realized what a luxury having a personal vehicle really is! Which also leads me to…
Seat warmers. Silly, but so true! With the sudden freezing temps we’ve had lately, I’m thankful for the seat warmers that warm my tush during every commute.
My health. While I might not be in perfect health, I don’t have any major ailments that prevent me from living a normal life. I can breathe fresh air and I can exercise with little restraint. I too frequently complain about my body’s physique or my minor aches and pains that I lose sight of all that is in my favor.
Caffeine. Like I mentioned in this post, I’m mildly obsessed with Starbucks Refreshers right now. Don’t worry, all you pregnancy police, I’m not going over my daily allotted caffeine limit! It’s essential some mornings, and whenever I need to boost to conquer a workout in the evenings.
Makeup. On mornings when I didn’t get enough sleep, a good mascara and a little concealer can transform my sleepy eyes into ones that look awake and vibrant. It can cover up the “blotchies” I get all over my face after crying (an unfortunate Lukatz trait!), or the annoying acne breakouts I get thanks to fluctuating hormones. Wearing a little makeup just makes me feel more confident!
Technology. I’m thankful for social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram that allow me to connect with family and friends on a daily basis. Not to mention — Without technology, this little blog of mine wouldn’t exist! 🙂
What are you thankful for right now? Big or small – I want to hear it!
And, if you don’t hear from me again before turkey day, Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!
