Welcome back to another pregnancy update! Today I’m sharing all about weeks 21 through 24 of my Second Trimester.
Past updates (in case you missed them):
Thanks again for following along on this journey with us!
I’m feeling more movements little by little, and that is hands down, the BEST feeling in the entire world. It blows my mind some days that I’m sustaining this tiny life inside me. Suddenly I’m not alone anymore. She’s riding in the car with me (and yes, I absolutely have been belting out Christmas tunes every day for her), she’s grocery shopping with me, she’s sitting at my desk and working with me. It’s so surreal!
I totally get why everyone says the second trimester is the “honeymoon trimester.” My energy is pretty great most days, and I’m still doing well with workouts, even despite the time change and cold weather! That in itself, is a MOM WIN!
I feel pretty good, despite the never-ending sinus infection. My appetite has increased and I’m hungry ALL THE TIME. Still craving lots of sweets these days and this week I indulged on donuts, cheesecake and ice cream. Whoops! I’ll do better next week. 😉
We bought a rug and curtains this week for the nursery, and Justin has a couple of projects in mind he wants to make for her walls. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to write a post about her nursery once it’s complete!
I’m honestly so emotional as I’m writing this. It astounds me that I’ve made it to 22 weeks, and there’s only 18 (-ish) left! Baby girl is grooving away in my belly right now, probably enjoying my breakfast sandwich, and my pregnancy tracker app tells me she weighs A POUND this week.
You guys, a pound!!!
I literally can’t believe it. Like I’ve mentioned a million times before, pregnancy after loss is HARD, so every tiny milestone feels groundbreaking and should be celebrated.
The rest of the week I’ve felt miserable from the neck up, as I’m still dealing with this persistent nasal congestion. There’s honestly no pattern to it. One day I’m fine and the next day I’m stuffing tissues up my nose and can barely open my swollen eyes. No clue if it’s a cold, or a sinus infection, or an allergy to something, or just a side effect of pregnancy. Have any of you readers had an experience like this while pregnant? I did get a prenatal massage this week though, which was amazing and much needed!
We also got our flu shots this weekend (ouch!) and tag teamed on a nursery project.
I designed and cut everything out on my Cricut machine, while Justin sanded and stained the board and then applied the vinyl. It turned out so cute. It’s all coming together!
Oh, and last but certainly not least — BABY GIRL OFFICIALLY HAS A NAME!!!
Happy Thanksgiving! I kicked off the week celebrating turkey day with my family in Chicago. The night before I left (11/26), Justin felt baby girl kick for the first time. It was truly a magical moment, and I’d be lying if I said there weren’t any tears. Her movements have definitely increased and have gotten stronger. We can both feel her kicks from the outside, and she now weighs 1.1-1.2 lbs and measures about 11 inches long.
No doubt about it – this year I am extra thankful as I carry this miracle girl in my belly.
We met with Dr. Kessler this week and heard baby girl’s heartbeat ticking away. My belly measures perfectly on track, and she sees no concerns. She recommended Afrin for my never-ending congestion, and could not believe I’ve been putting up with these symptoms for as long as I have! I will return after Christmas for my diabetes test. My mom had gestational diabetes with both of her pregnancies, which means I’m at a higher risk for it as well. Wish me luck!
I’m still craving all things sweet — fruits and desserts. New cravings include orange juice and chocolate milk. Which is funny, because I typically do not like either one!
My Aunt Casey & Uncle Danny were so kind to gift us Dylan’s crib and glider (and many, many other things!) for our nursery. I brought everything home with me from Chicago, and putting it together at home was very sentimental.
As you can tell, Rudy approves!
Although we prefer that she keeps baking for another 13+ weeks, we are so relieved to know that we have reached VIABILITY!
I’m absolutely loving how active she is – even if it is when I’m trying to go to sleep! Like you other loss-moms know, every little movement provides the utmost reassurance. When I don’t feel her for a few hours I panic, and a couple minutes later she’ll kick. It’s like she knows her mama needs her!
Baby girl’s (who’s name will remain a secret for a few more weeks) skeleton has begun to harden this week, and my app says she will gain about 6 oz. per week moving forward. Her face is fully formed, complete with eyelashes, eyebrows and hair–though they have no pigment yet. I can’t wait to see her beautiful features, and my fingers are crossed for dark hair like her mama & daddy have!
I’m afraid to even type this for fear of jinxing myself – but so far I don’t have any stretch marks. My skin is itchy (obviously due to stretching) and I’m flying through lotions and body butter like you wouldn’t believe. I have a light linea nigra above my belly button.
As far as symptoms go, I’m
still always dealing with pregnancy sinusitis, though the Afrin is helping a bit. I’m starting to feel heavier down there and in my belly as well. I’m beginning to get occasional, but serious cramps in my feet and legs, which is totally normal, and a great excuse to ask Justin for a massage! 😉
The best part about this week was our mini Holiday maternity shoot! We met up with Justin’s sister on Sunday and had her snap some fun photos of us with the baby bump on full display. I’m super excited to share those with you soon!
Be sure to follow me on Instagram for more frequent updates!
You can definitely see some changes!
I promise, my goal for the next post is to take more consistent weekly belly photos (i.e. in the same shirt, or same setting)! 😉
